A bit of Family History..

I love history as a rule.. any thing to do with it.. Dates.. Names.. Events.. But Family history and Pictures are the absolute best..

My Aunt gave us a copy of some info she found out about my dad's side of the family.. and there was an interesting account included in the papers... Very romantic... :) I decided to share with you all.. (Beth-figured you might particualarly enjoy this.. ;))

During the last days of the reign of Queen Elizabeth, a Scotch Nobleman having access to the Royal Court of England made a visit to a friend there. He was unmarried and soon fell in love with the Queen’s Second Maid of Honor. He asked of the Queen the girl’s hand in marriage. Though the Queen was old, she still liked to gather about her, young and pretty girls, and guarded jealously their desire to leave her. She was not at all willing to give up one of her prettiest maids, so she sent the wooer away.
After waiting for weeks and trying in vain to get Queen Elizabeth’s consent to the marriage, he let a cousin persuade him to come to the new country (America). Before leaving the father land, however, these cousins decided that their names were too long for the new country and business life, so like many others, had it legally shortened. The family name was Beatrice, pronounced B-A-TRICE. They retained only the last syllable, TRICE, dropping the first two B-A, bit in dropping the first two syllables they lost their inheritance in Scotland.
Although Albert, the elder cousin, let enterprise and the new world keep him from discontent, it was not so with the little sweet heart. The many beautiful things about the Royal Court lost their charm. She grew pale and seemed to be gradually pining away. The ardent love letters received from across the seas did not add to her contentment. Sometimes the Queen to read. At last Queen Elizabeth’s love and sympathy for the girl concurred selfishness.
She had prepared for her a splendid trousseau and sent Mary Dunbar to her faithful lover. They were married as soon as Mary reached America, and Albert Trice and his Cousin James decided a warmer climate would be more desireable for a permanent home and they moved to what is now known as Virginia. A very large tract of land was named Virginia by Sir Walter Raleigh for the beloved Queen Elizabeth, because for the sake of the Kindom she remained a virgin all her life.
Queen Elizabeth lived long enough to receive from across the waters the good tidings that in Mary and Albert Trice’s home there was a wee bit of femininity named Elizabeth for the Queen. The next child born to Mr and Mrs. Trice was named Benjamin Albert, thus making the initials B. A. Trice- BEATRICE. In nearly every generations since then there has been the name of Elizabeth, Benjamin, Albert, and James.

Note-It is said that all the Trices sprung from this family…
